A facility for systematically testing reliability and performance of LED lighting apparatuses launched its operation.
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy held on June 5 the completion ceremony of LED Lighting Verification Center installed in the Korea Photonics Technology Institute. The Center is established as part of the ‘Program of verifying LED lighting and developing infrastructure for knowledge information on converging photonics and information technology’ to establish test bed for a variety of LED lighting products.
The Center is equipped with systematic system that can verify reliability and qualitative performance of lighting products in real-life environment, the first of its kind in Korea, by installing test beds and testing equipment by purposes.
Particularly, the street light testing equipment is the world’s first assessment facility that can test photonic performance of streetlamps and security lights in compliance with street conditions and environments where lighting apparatuses are installed.
Due to absence of facilities or spaces for testing and verifying their products in real-life environment, companies had to be satisfied with fulfilling government’s authentication criteria for KC, KS and high efficiency thus far instead of verifying performance of products.
The Center aims at further upgrading quality of LED lighting products in Korea by easing these problems and providing one-stop support for technological solution to improve reliability and qualitative performance of products.
And it plans to continuously support local LED companies to help them lead the world industry by securing systems and technology in two years that can assess psychological and physiological impact of lighting.
Kim Jae-hong, Director General of Growth Engine Office, Ministry of Knowledge Economy, said, “I hope the LED Lighting Verification Center will help companies develop lighting systems for benefits of man based on their technology prowess by verifying performance of products.”
