At the agreement signing ceremony, companies agreed with the KEMCO’s local branch to participate in the consultative group for stabilizing power supply and demand, and to take quick actions for saving power when the government requests. Companies also agreed to put companywide energy-saving and green life into practice, conduct in-house education and publicity activities for saving power, and to maintain continued cooperative relations with KEMCO’s Jeju Headquarters.
After concluding the agreement, KEMCO’s Jeju Headquarters briefed companies on the targeted energy and greenhouse gas management system asking their preemptive action toward the system.
Executive Director Oh Seok-beom of KEMCO’s Jeju Headquarters said, “As the power reserve margin recently dropped to lower than 5%, the government issued the attention alert on power supply and demand for the first time since the nation experienced a blackout last year. Given electric power situation may be more pressing than any other years, we need to spread power-saving culture across the country.”
“Among others, companies that use energy most heavily should take the lead in saving energy. The pledge for initiatively saving power by top 10 companies in consuming energy in Jeju is very meaningful,” he added.
In an effort to save power, KEMCO’s Jeju Headquarters has launched the ‘social accord for saving energy’ and ‘civic groups’ council for joint campaign for saving power’. Having formed a power-saving monitoring team in conjunction with civic groups, it is guiding owners of buildings and restaurants to save power.
