As part of the Eulji Exercise, the company emergently restored the bombed electric transformer jointly with related organizations.

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO, President: Kim Joong-kyum) conducted on August 21 the ‘real-world exercise for emergency restoration of electric power facilities’ at 345kV Migeum Substation located in Namyangju City as part of the 2012 Eulji Exercise.
As the real-world exercise to deal with potential terror against important facilities of the country in war and emergency situation, the exercise is designed to improve the capability to take proper actions during emergencies by workers and to further reinforce the system of cooperating with related organizations and partners.
The exercise was taken part by about 110 persons, including President Kim Joong-kyum of KEPCO, Mayor Lee Seok-woo of Namyangju City, commanders of nearby army units and others. The exercise was conducted jointly with related organizations under supervision of the executive director of KEPCO’s Northern Gyeonggi Regional Office.
Under the supposition that No. 1 electric transformer at 345kV Migeum Substation was bombed at its A-phase by a terrorist attack causing fire and injuring people, participants took emergency actions in the order of rescuing wounded persons, extinguishing fire of the damaged transformer, facility protection and emergency restoration of destroyed transformer using reserve product.
The exercise also included mobilizing various vehicles, including 10 vehicles of transporting soldiers and policemen, as well as emergency relief squad and chemical fire trucks of local fire station, and a crane for electric facility restoration, the electric substation resumed the supply of power rapidly as they took fast and systematic actions, such as initial treatment, lifesaving, fire extinction, protection of substation and emergency restoration of power facilities.
Based on the results of the exercise, KEPCO will further reinforce capabilities of dealing with crisis situation at power supply facilities across the country, including substations and power transmission installations, while building closer and organic cooperation relations with related organizations.
KEPCO’s President Kim Joong-kyum said, “Since electric power facilities are directly connected with the national security, the real-world exercise for the emergency restoration of power facilities as part of the Eulji Exercise is meaningful in that the company could restore such facilities in cooperation with related organizations. All of us should do our best to protect the national security and benefits of the people.”
Moreover, as part of its effort to establish the ‘emergency preparedness system’ through a variety of crisis management and real-world exercise, KEPCO is conducting the 2012 Eulji Exercise for 4 days from August 20 to 23, day and night, with participation of over 1,500 employees at its head office and 26 regional operations (14 regional offices, 9 development institutions [branches], and 3 power supply stations).
