The Korean Environment Corporation (KECO) is honored with internationally authoritative environmental awards in the United States and the United Kingdom consecutively, boasting its expertise and excellence in the world environmental industry.
The KECO (Chairman: Pak Seung-hwan) announced on November 12 that it received the International Green Apple Environment Awards in the Green Apple Awards from The Green Organization, an internationally authoritative environmental non-profit organization in the U.K.
The Green Apple Awards are conferred annually to eco-friendly products and services that demonstrated outstanding performance and technological innovation among the excellent examples in all industrial segments.
Since it was officially acknowledged by the European Commission (EC) in 1994, the Green Apple Awards are recognized as the most authoritative environmental awards in Europe.
The Green Apple Awards consist of the U.K. segment and international segment, and The Green Organization selects awardees by continents in the international segment. The KECO was selected as an awardee in Austral-Asia.
The KECO is the first winner of the Green Apple Awards among public organizations in Korea, and the awards ceremony was held on November 12 at the U.K. Houses of Parliament.
The authoritative award is conferred to KECO in recognition of its performance of significantly reducing social expenses by effectively cutting greenhouse gases and treating wastes through nationwide wastes monitoring system.
The KECO is highly evaluated as it successfully reduced 260 billion won in social costs and 5,592 tons of carbon dioxide in 2011 alone by establishing automated and connected system of collecting, transporting and treating wastes based on the Internet and RFID technology.
Chairman Pak Seung-hwan of the KECO said, “As it received another internationally authoritative award after winning the Environmental Business International (EBI) Awards in the U.S. in March this year, the KECO laid a foundation for Korea’s moving a step towards an environmentally advanced country. The Corporation is committed to become a globally top level comprehensive environmental service organization.”
