‘Green Wave’ Spreads Across Industrial Complexes in Daegu

worldenergy | Nov.16.2012 | The News > Korea | read: 363

The Daegu Eco-Industrial Park Corporation completed 5 projects…will contribute to realizing Green Daegu 21 scheme.

In two years after the Daegu Eco-Industrial Park Corporation was launched, green wave is spreading in industrial complexes in Daegu.

The eco-industrial park program is a national initiative that is supported by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and administered by Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (KICOX). Daegu was designated as the second phase wide area eco-industrial park in 2009 by the Knowledge Economy Ministry, and the Corporation has been carrying forward programs since June 2010.

The Daegu Eco-Industrial Park Corporation has been carrying forward 10 projects in industrial complexes in Daegu since 2010, and it is actively conducting activities for building a resource recycling networks of companies in industrial complexes.

As projects of the third year in the second phase of Daegu Eco-Industrial Park started in January this year, companies in regional industrial complexes are nearly completing technology development and commercialization. Among them, LUBCHEM Korea successfully developed and commercialized technology of reusing waste lubricating oil as industrial grease. The waste lubricating oil-recycled grease demonstrated quality and performance similar to current standard grease through verification by certificate authority. LUBCHEM’s new technology is expected to improve competitiveness of companies that use lubricating oil by reducing waste lubricating oil treating costs and using recycled grease for cheaper price.

And 5 other projects completed development of technologies. These include the project of building network for recycling effluence from Seongseo Waste Water Treating Plant to use for industrial purpose, project of establishing network for reusing organic waste activated sludge in Dalseong Industrial Complex as liquid fertilizer, project of building network for recovering sludge by using unused energy at the combined heat and power plant in Daegu Dyeing Industrial Complex, and the project of building network of separately recovering and recycling caustic soda waste fluid generated in mercerizing process, using composite filter membrane technology.

When these new technologies are commercialized, they are expected to bring economic effect of 10.4 billion won a year by reducing costs and increasing sales, while reducing greenhouse gases by 28,000 tons annually. They will also contribute to realizing the ‘Green Daegu 21’ scheme.

The eco-industrial park program in Daegu is a program of establishing eco-friendly industrial complexes in wide area, comprising the Seongseo Industrial Complex, Dyeing Industrial Complex, Seodaegu Industrial Complex, and First and Second Dalseong Industrial Complexes. It is designed to establish networks of recycling by-products and wastes produced by companies in these industrial complexes, and any company in the city is eligible for participation in the program.

▲ Eco-industrial park program: Modeled after the principle of the natural ecosystem that recycles resources and emits no waste, the program is aimed at building a green industrial complex by improving usefulness of resources by reusing wastes and by-products produced by certain companies in the complex as base materials or energy of other companies. Namely, it is a program of establishing resource recycling industrial complex for efficient use of resources while dealing with environmental issues.
