Chairman Kim Yeong-hun of Daesung Group is elected as the Acting Chairman of Organizing Committee of the 22nd World Energy Congress 2013, Daegu.
For stable operation of the committee, the Organizing Committee of the World Energy Congress 2013 elected Chairman Kim Yeong-hun of Daesung Group, who is serving as the senior vice chairman of the committee, as the acting chairman in place of former Chairman Kim Joong-kyum (former president of Korea Electric Power Corporation) who recently resigned.
At the annual general meeting of the World Energy Council (WEC) held on November 8 in Monte-Carlo, Monaco, Chairman Kim Yeong-hun was elected as one of the next co-chairmen whose term starts in October 2013. And he had served as the vice chairman for Asia Pacific between 2006 and 2011.
With 94 member countries, the WEC is one of major international energy-related organizations along with the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The World Energy Congress is a triennial international event hosted by the WEC, and attended by more than 5,000 government officials, business leaders, and scientists from academia and research institutions in member countries. Its one-week programs include conferences and exhibitions. Previous congresses were held in Rome and Montreal in 2007 and 2010, respectively, and it is scheduled to be held in Daegu in 2013.
