The Seoul City government will provide energy-saving consulting services for free to 100 large scale apartment complexes with more than 1,000 households each as part of its effort to get over power crisis in summer.
The City government will select these 100 apartment complexes, or one fourth, of some 400 large apartment complexes in the order of consuming larger amount of energy by autonomous districts.
Consulting services will include various means of saving energy as much as possible, such as diagnosis of electric equipments at apartment complexes, analysis of pattern of using energy, identification of factors that waste energy, and suggestion of energy-saving method by replacing equipments. Citizens can reduce maintenance costs of their apartment houses by implementing suggested methods, while taking part in energy saving drive based on realistic and customized energy reduction method.
The Seoul City authority said it will provide energy-saving consulting services to large apartment complexes for 2 months in July and August in conjunction with KT. Referring to results of consulting services in this period, the City government will expand such service to other apartment complexes in the latter part of this year.
Earlier on June 27, the Seoul City government sealed an MOU with KT for providing consulting services on use of energy to apartment houses. They also agreed to cooperate each other for jointly providing consulting services to apartment houses for saving and efficiently using energy and to set up means of exchanging information.
Based on the MOU, KT will offer consulting services to apartment houses in Seoul for ways of using and saving energy, and examine safety at power receiving and distributing facilities and public zones in apartment complexes. And the Seoul City authority will provide administrative and institutional support to KT so that the company can efficiently carry out consulting activities.
Through consulting service, KT will suggest ways of saving apartment maintenance costs to households after analyzing power consumption patterns by apartment complexes during the past 3 years and grasping amount of power consumed by individual households. The company will also examine safety by conducting thermal image diagnosis on heat generation or water leakage at transformers.
Specific consulting activities will include diagnosis and analysis of electric facilities and quality of power (such as analysis of loss in BANK load factors of transformers, measurement of leakage current, and examination of storage battery facilities), thermal image diagnosis (such as extra-high voltage entrance cables, main part of transformers, switches, circuit breakers and connectors), diagnosis of electric energy (analysis of reality of using electric energy, and analysis of adequacy in operating electric facilities), diagnosis of replacement of lightings at underground parking lots with LED lamps, and introduction of automatic control systems (dimming).
In the consulting service, the company will also suggest means of saving energy (electric power) by over 10% by replacing lightings in rooms and underground parking lots with LED lamps, and introducing automatic control systems.
Three consulting and diagnosis teams (one team is consisted of 3 members) organized by KT will provide services to 12 apartment complexes a week from Monday through Thursday (excluding public holidays). Large scale apartment complexes are advised to apply to relevant borough offices if they desire to receive such consulting services.
Director General Im Ok-gi of Climate and Environment Office at Seoul City government said, “We hope many citizens will actively participate in energy consulting services that analyze energy consumption patterns and help them be aware of means of efficiently using and saving energy in unprecedentedly serious crisis in power supply in this summer. We expect the consulting service will serve another momentum of getting over energy crisis by building energy-saving culture at large scale apartment complexes.”
