The KIER designed the convergence art project by adopting nature as a theme.
The Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER, President: Whang Joo-ho), Arts Council Korea (Chairman: Gwon Yeong-bin) and Space (President: Ha Tae-seok) are jointly hosting the ‘Nature+Media Annuale’ exhibition on August 16~30 at Arco Art Center in Daehak-ro (University Avenue), Seoul.
Started as collaboration between scientists, artists and architects, the ‘Nature+Media Annuale’ is a project of creating convergence public artworks adopting nature and media as key words. Processes of creating the ‘Annuale’ and completed works are shared with the general public in various shapes, including exhibition, publication, image and conference.
This project is designed to introduce new creative works by combining architecture and media art with energy technologies, such as wind power generation, fluid physics, power generation by salinity-gradient and marine bio-energy.
Artworks of the ‘Annuale’, which were improved with completeness through active participation of citizens from the stage of devising ideas, will be permanently exhibited on ‘Olle road’, a walking tour course, in Jeju-do starting on September 14 after exhibition in Seoul is finished.
The KIER expects that a new added value will be generated by combining culture contents with natural tourism resources in Jeju-do through this project.
President Whang Joo-ho of KIER and Chairman Gwon Yeong-bin of Arts Council Korea sealed on August 16 an MOU at Arco Art Center for expansion of convergence between energy technologies, culture and art, before opening ceremony of the exhibition.
President Whang Joo-ho said, “The agreement will serve as a chance of further embodying our effort to popularize scientific culture. I expect it will help creative talents in scientific circles and culture and art community actively collaborate each other and generate synergy effect in the future.”
